Why Shutterfest Was a Game Changer for My Photography Business

As a photographer serving families throughout Dalton, Georgia and the surrounding Chattanooga area, I’m always looking for ways to grow creatively and give my clients the best experience possible. Attending Shutterfest in St. Louis was an unforgettable opportunity to learn from some of the industry’s most talented photographers, gain hands-on experience, and push myself outside of my comfort zone. From maternity, newborn, milestone, and cake smash classes to new creative techniques and unexpected challenges along the way, this trip left me feeling inspired, refreshed, and more excited than ever for what’s ahead.

My First Trip to St. Louis

My first trip to St. Louis was definitely one to remember.

To say Shutterfest was incredible honestly feels like an understatement. The entire experience was overwhelming in the best possible way. I left feeling inspired, energized, and full of so much new knowledge that I can’t wait to bring back into my work.

One of the most surreal parts of the week was getting hands-on experience learning from photographers I’ve admired for years. This wasn’t just sitting in a classroom listening to lectures — it was real, interactive learning where we were actively shooting, practicing techniques, and working directly alongside experienced photographers in real time. Watching different shooting styles, creative approaches, and techniques pushed me outside of my comfort zone and reminded me how important it is to continue growing as an artist.

Creative Sessions & New Experiences

I also had the opportunity to work with some truly incredible models during a golden hour maternity class and a cake smash class. I took several newborn and milestone focused classes as well, all of which pushed me creatively and reminded me just how much I love capturing meaningful moments in every stage of life.

Beyond the classes themselves, one of my favorite parts of the trip was meeting new people and making new friends who share the same passion for photography and storytelling. There’s something really special about being surrounded by creatives who inspire and encourage each other.

An Unexpected Turn

On day two of this week-long adventure to the Midwest, my camera broke. After six years of documenting so many beautiful memories, saying goodbye to the camera that had been part of my journey was emotional. But somehow, my best souvenir from the trip ended up being a brand new camera. While it was bittersweet, it also feels like the beginning of an exciting new chapter, and I’m already creating new memories with it.

Coming Home Inspired

One of the biggest things I focused on during Shutterfest was rebuilding my confidence creatively. I came home feeling creatively refreshed and excited to start implementing everything I learned into my sessions moving forward.

And with that… I’m officially back at it.

My calendar is now open and booking for June and July, and I cannot wait to create something beautiful with all of you. Thank you to everyone who continues to support my little dream and trust me with your memories. Experiences like this remind me just how much I love what I do.
